Antique Charles Field Haviland Limoges Covered Dish with Chain-Link Handles

Originally meant for vegetables. Clearly capable of better party tricks.

This antique Charles Field Haviland Limoges covered dish brings a little French charm to the table, with sculptural chain-link handles, soft aqua accents, and delicate gilt detailing. Berry-laden branches and small blue and violet flowers wander across the white porcelain, while a raised foot and coordinating lid give the oval form a graceful silhouette.

The handles deserve a second look: interlocking links picked out in aqua and gold, with an open geometric handle finishing the lid. Lovely from across the room. Even better when you lean in.

Display it with its lid on a sideboard or in a cabinet, or lift the lid and let it take a turn as a floral centerpiece—as I’ve done on my own banquette table. A small removable vessel inside keeps flowers and water separate from the antique porcelain.
