Small in scale but extravagant in every other regard, this antique French perfume casket was designed to turn the dressing table into an event.

The architectural gilt-bronze holder contains two removable square crystal perfume bottles crowned by substantial faceted stoppers. Its exceptionally detailed framework incorporates formal trelliswork, scrolling acanthus leaves, laurel borders, ribbon-tied garlands, classical urns, and a romantic couple dressed in eighteenth-century fashion.

The strict symmetry and classical ornamentation are characteristic of the Louis XVI Revival style, while the courting figures introduce a touch of Rococo romance. Every side is decorated, making the casket as beautiful viewed in profile as it is from the front.

The bottles sit securely within the bronze framework and may be removed for use. Their faceted stoppers catch the light beautifully, and their slightly differing heights give the pair a charming collected quality.

Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1891–1930, the casket is marked “Made in France” on the underside. It would be exquisite displayed on a dressing table, vanity, bathroom shelf, or among a collection of antique French decorative objects.

Essentially, it is jewelry for the dressing table.

Condition Report

Excellent antique condition. The two crystal bottles and faceted stoppers present beautifully, with no chips, cracks, or notable damage observed. The gilt-bronze framework remains exceptionally detailed, with minor age-appropriate patina and one small area of darkened finish or localized gilt loss along the front edge of the base, as photographed. The two stoppers differ slightly in height. Marked “Made in France” on the underside. Please review all photographs closely, as they form part of the description.
