This wonderfully theatrical vintage chinoiserie display shelf features a tiered pagoda roof, slender faux-bamboo supports, three display shelves, and hand-painted gold floral and foliate details against a dramatic black finish.

Its tall, narrow proportions make it especially useful for displaying small porcelain, perfume bottles, miniature artwork, books, or other collected treasures without occupying a large amount of wall space. The sculptural roofline and timeworn black-and-gold finish give it just as much presence empty as it has filled.

Estimated to date from approximately the 1970s, this unbranded piece closely follows traditional Chinese pagoda forms interpreted through the wonderfully decorative lens of late-20th-century chinoiserie.
