A remarkable large-scale Japanese blue and white porcelain jardinière presented on an equally impressive three-figure figural metal stand.
The porcelain vessel features a dramatic high-relief dragon winding around the exterior against beautifully hand-painted underglaze blue decoration depicting koi, flowering branches, chrysanthemums, and flowing water motifs. Inside the broad bell-shaped rim, additional hand-painted koi and floral decoration continue around the interior—a luxurious detail found on finer decorative wares.
A remarkable large-scale Japanese blue and white porcelain jardinière raised on an extraordinary bronze tripod stand modeled as three crouching sumo wrestlers, each bent beneath the weight of the vessel and supporting it across his back and shoulders.

The accompanying bronze stand is a work of art in its own right. The three muscular figures are linked together to form a stable circular support, their expressive faces, powerful bodies, and rich dark patina creating a striking contrast with the cool blue-and-white porcelain above. The relationship between the porcelain and its unusual linked bronze stand dramatically elevates the presentation, creating a sculptural statement far beyond that of a jardinière alone.
While the exact dating of this ensemble remains open to scholarly interpretation, several characteristics—including the porcelain body, kiln-fired applied dragon, hand-painted decoration, and construction—support Japanese manufacture. Comparable examples attributed to the Hirado kilns during the late Meiji period share notable similarities in foot construction, cobalt decoration, and applied dragon modeling. Other related wares have been attributed to the early-to-mid Showa period. Rather than presenting a definitive kiln or date attribution, this piece is offered as an exceptional antique Japanese decorative object whose beauty, scale, and craftsmanship speak for themselves.
At nearly two feet tall when displayed on its stand, it makes an extraordinary focal point for a conservatory, entry hall, sunroom, covered porch, garden room, or richly layered traditional interior.

Displays beautifully overall.
There is a rim chip with an associated stable hairline extending from the rim. Age-related wear consistent with use is present throughout. The metal stand retains an attractive aged patina.
