Dating to approximately 1900–1950, the stand reflects the Neoclassical and Regency Revival styles popular throughout the first half of the 20th century. Its tall cylindrical body is constructed from substantial rolled sheet brass, subtly shaped with horizontal bands and finished with a reinforced rolled rim.

The applied ornament is exceptional. Elaborately pierced cast-brass handles feature scrolling botanical forms and floral details, while three magnificent cast paw feet give the stand both stability and unmistakable classical presence.

Closer examination reveals the traditional methods used in its construction. The rolled brass body retains its visible vertical seam, while the handles and feet are secured with individually peened rivets rather than modern screws or welded fittings. These details point to older workshop production and distinguish it from lightweight later reproductions.

At 25 inches tall, it has wonderful scale for an entry hall, mudroom, library or covered porch. Use it traditionally for umbrellas and walking sticks, or reinterpret it as a handsome towel holder in a guest bathroom or pool house, an elevated wastebasket, or a decorative vessel for tall branches and greenery.

Substantial, useful and unapologetically grand—exactly the sort of hardworking antique that refuses to fade quietly into the background.

Condition

Very good antique condition, especially considering its probable age. The brass presents beautifully, with a warm, softly aged finish and only light wear consistent with decades of careful use. The cast handles and all three paw feet remain intact, secure and wonderfully detailed. The stand is structurally sound and retains an impressive overall appearance.
