Some china is meant to match. This trio is meant to make the room.

Dating to approximately 1840–1850, these English transferware dinner plates feature Don Pottery’s wonderfully elaborate “Persian” pattern in a soft mulberry-purple. A bird rests among abundant fruit and foliage at the center, surrounded by floral cartouches, lace-like detailing and extravagant paisley motifs.

Two plates bear the printed “Persian B.” backstamp documented on pieces attributed to Samuel Barker of Don Pottery in Swinton, Yorkshire. The third plate is unmarked but closely matches the marked examples in pattern, shape, coloration and dimensions.

More than 175 years old, the pattern is seldom encountered in this dinner-plate form—and the unusual mulberry color makes the set particularly decorative.

Beautiful displayed together in a china cabinet, arranged around a mirror or used to begin a collected plate wall. They are offered as decorative antiques rather than everyday dinnerware.

Dimensions

Each plate measures approximately:

Diameter: 10 inches

Condition

The set presents beautifully, with strong, clearly legible transfer decoration.

Two plates show localized rim loss and chipping, documented in the close-up photographs, along with expected age-related surface wear, firing irregularities and scattered marks. The third, unmarked plate is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs observed.

Please examine all photographs, which form part of the condition description.

Because of their age, these plates are recommended for decorative display rather than regular food service.
