Such a good boy.
Faithful, handsome and very proud of the job he has done, this beautiful Royal Dux retriever returns with a pheasant held gently in his mouth. Created by Royal Dux Bohemia circa 1940s, he has the remarkably lifelike character that makes the company’s animal figures so beloved. From his intent expression and softly folded ears to his outstretched tail and carefully modeled coat.
And this boy is BIG.
Measuring approximately 20½ inches long, he is unusually large for this Royal Dux subject. Most examples we encountered were considerably smaller. This is not a little porcelain dog destined to disappear on a crowded shelf—he is a substantial sculptural presence capable of anchoring a console, library table, mantel or gentleman’s study.
The beautifully modeled hunting scene captures the retriever in motion, stepping carefully across the naturalistic terrain with his prize. Warm caramel and cream glazes define his coat, while the pheasant’s deep blue-green wings provide a handsome contrast. Viewed from every angle, the detailed musculature, feathering, paws and sweeping tail give him vitality and movement.
He would be especially wonderful in the home of a sporting-dog enthusiast, hunter or anyone who has ever loved a loyal retriever. A beautiful boy. A faithful boy. A very good boy—and one with enough scale to command the room.

Very good vintage condition.
