Vintage Chinoiserie Pagoda Wall Shelf in Black & Gold

This vintage chinoiserie wall shelf is finished in black with warm antiqued-gold painted detailing. Its distinctive design features a scalloped pagoda roof, turned faux-bamboo supports, painted floral corner medallions, and a leafy motif across the lower apron.

Three open display tiers create a jewel-box setting for small porcelain, perfume bottles, match strikers, shells, miniature artwork, and other collected objects. Its narrow proportions make it especially effective in a powder room, entry, dressing room, bar area, or an otherwise difficult sliver of wall.

The shelf is unmarked and is best described as Chelsea House–style or Maitland-Smith–style, rather than attributed to either maker. Estimated late 20th century, likely circa the 1970s–1980s.

Condition

Good decorative vintage condition with notable age-related cosmetic wear. The original black and antiqued-gold painted finish shows rubbing, scratches, scuffs, small chips, and areas of paint loss throughout, particularly along the pagoda roof, shelf edges, turned supports, lower feet, and back.

There is a visible horizontal seam or separation line across the pagoda roof, along with finish variation and marks on the shelf surfaces. Two metal keyhole hangers are attached to the back.
