Vintage West German Highmount Majolica Bird & Grape Plates

DESCRIPTION

A charming vintage Highmount M.B.D. West German majolica plate, decorated with a pair of sweet songbirds perched among grapevines and leafy branches.

The wonderfully dimensional design is molded in relief and finished in a dreamy turquoise blue glaze with soft green leaves, cobalt berries and touches of blush pink and yellow on the birds. A raised scrolling border finishes the softly scalloped plate.

Marked on the underside Made in Western Germany with the Highmount M.B.D. mark and model number 230 S, this mid-20th-century piece is a wonderful example of the colorful naturalistic majolica pottery for which German ceramics are so loved.

At approximately six inches across, its smaller scale makes it especially fun to decorate with. Hang one alone in that little spot that has always needed something, pair two together, or mix several into a collected wall of majolica and botanical plates.

And yes—if you happen to need more than one, they are also awfully pretty simply stacked on a table.
